Kenneth McCurdy

Kenneth Lyle McCurdy, 81, of Obion passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
He was born March 25, 1937, in North English, Iowa, son of Melvin B. and Phyllis L. (Morris) McCurdy.
He graduated from Jewell High School in Jewell, Iowa in 1954, and Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in 1958 with a degree in industrial education.
He served in the United States Army Reserve from 1959-65. He also taught science at Lake City High School in Lake City, Iowa from 1959-62.
He was also in personnel management with United States Gypsum Corporation and its subsidaries from 1962-80.
In 1980, he had a unique opportunity to manage the day to day operations of as small company mining town for United States Gypsum Corporation in Empire, Nev., until his retirement in 1999. After retirement, Ken and his wife, Irene, relocated back to Tennessee.
Ken and Irene (Cunningham Rogers) McCurdy were united in marriage July 22, 1978, in Eldridge. Ken enjoyed auto-racing whether participating or spectating, camping, boating, exploring the desert, traveling and doing anything mechanical.
Later in life, he enjoyed spending time with family, his dogs and living in the country.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant son Matt McCurdy and his wife Irene.
He leaves behind three sons, Jon (Tami) McCurdy of Gardner Kan., George Rogers Jr. of Buchanan, and Richard Rogers of Troy; a sister, Janette Kelly of Lincoln, Calif.; and two brothers, Ron (Sherrie) McCurdy of Northville, Mich., and Bill (Jolene) McCurdy of Waverly, Iowa; grandchildren, Ashley McCurdy, Brandi (Rogers) Rhamy, Christina (Rogers) Braddock, Lee (Rogers) Rhamy, Christina (Rogers) Braddock, Lee Rogers and Ashley (Rogers) Harris; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held after the holidays.
