Ron Smith

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Spencer Minyard, Sam Minyard, Steve Grace, Jock Johnson, Jake Wheeles and Eugene Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Ursery, Cecil Ray, Richard Arnold, Ken Miller, Larry Insco, Bill Brewer and James Ursery.
The family requests that memorials be made to Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church; Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope; or the Arc of Northwest Mississippi for Autism Awareness at www.thearcnwms.org.
He was born Dec. 4, 1943, in Obion County, son of the late Odis and Virginia (Bryant) Smith. He married the former Jo Ann Thornton March 30, 1963. She survives.
He was a graduate of the former Woodland Mills High School and was a member of Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a retired employee of Dale Bryant Installations and had been the owner and operator of the former Ron’s Quick Stop, where he was known as “Chicken Man Smith.”
He had also been employed at the former Reelfoot Packing Co., Kinkead, Ford Tractor, John Deere Tractor and Nelson’s in Troy.
He is also survived by two daughters and his son-in-law, Ginger and Bill Richards of Byhalia, Miss., and Kelly Martin of Olive Branch, Miss.; his granddaughter and her spouse, Alex and Harris Wolf of Horn Lake, Miss.; two grandsons, Austin Richards and Chandler Richards, both of Byhalia; his sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Andy Minyard of Union City; his brother, David Smith of Union City; his brother-in-law and his spouse, Ken and Deborah Thornton of Knoxville; two sisters-in-law and their spouses, Joy and Dwight Grace of South Fulton and Debbie and Bobby Wheeles of Union City; and several nieces and nephews.
