Alvin Harrell
Funeral services were Sunday at 2 p.m. at New Salem Baptist Church, with Bro. Darrell Morgan and Bro. Ed Marbury officiating. Interment followed in New Salem Cemetery near Mason Hall.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Carson, Adam Alexander, Jamie Carson, Mason Chandler, Brandon Dillard, Nathan Woods, Addison Davidson and Jimmy Winters. Honorary pallbearers were members of New Salem Men’s Sunday School Class, Dr. Samuel Bradberry, Kenneth Smithson, George Wade, Junior Murdock, Bob Holloman and Willie Williams.
Karnes and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. The family asks that memorials be made to St. Jude; New Salem Cemetery Fund, in care of Steve Page, 27 Tom Roden Rd., Kenton, TN 38233; TN Baptist Children’s Home; or Kenton’s Pack the Bus (Backpack).
He was born Jan. 3, 1932, in Gibson County; son of the late William Kirkland and Elma Barker Harrell. He retired from the former Goodyear and was a farmer. Mr. Harrell was the chairman of deacons at New Salem Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher, a deacon, the building and grounds keeper, treasurer and cemetery contact for New Salem Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Peggy (Owens) Harrell; three children, Janet Alexander of Lawrenceburg and Joy Carson (Gary) and Jennifer Chandler (Todd), all of Mason Hall; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Carson (Lana), Jamie Carson (Brooke), Adam Alexander (Cheryl), Courtney Dillard (Brandon), Whitney Woods (Nathan), Mary Beth Chan-dler, Mason Chandler and Macy Ruth Chandler; and seven great-grandchildren, Julia Carson, Har-rison Carson, Ellie Grace Carson, Max Dillard, Chase Alexander, Brady Alexander and Lizzie Kate Carson. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Clint Alexander; and a sibling, Dorothy Alexander.
