Mary Virginia Chapman
Mary Virginia (Hensley) Chapman, 83, of Dyersburg, mother of Randy Chapman of Union City, passed away Oct. 29, 2016, in Dyersburg.
Services were Nov. 1 at Phillips Street Church of Christ in Dyersburg. Pallbearers were her grandsons: Zachary Chapman, Dillon Chapman, Jacob Chapman, Evan Chapman, Easton Chapman, Emery Chapman and Luke Robertson. Bro. Mike Kiser officiated. Edgar Shults also offered moving remarks for the family’s comfort.
Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.
She was born Feb. 13, 1933, in Gilt Edge, daughter of the late Landon and Mary Gladys (Smith) Hensley. She was a 1951 graduate of the former Byars Hall High School in Covington. She married Miller Alvin Chapman May 9, 1952. He survives. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage and five children.
She was a military wife whose husband served in the U.S. Air Force. Mrs. Chapman spent four years in Wiesbaden, Germany, with her family. They moved several times during her husband’s military career, but they had made their home in Dyersburg for many years.
She was an interior design seamstress and was a beloved mother and grandmother, involved in all her family’s activities. She was a strong Christian who belonged to Phillips Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband; four sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Paula Chapman of Union City, Brian and Lori Chapman of Dyersburg, Kevin and Linda Chapman of Chadwick, Mo., and Eric Chapman of Dyersburg; her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Steve Robertson of Jackson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Doris Ann and Sanford Yarbro of Burlison; and her brother, Jackie Hensley of Lincoln, Neb.
