Violet Dinwiddie

Mrs. Dinwiddie was born Dec. 10, 1933, in Mountain View, Mo., the daughter of the late Paul and Velma Smotherman.
Violet had retired earlier this year from the Eddie Cox Senior Center in Union City and had remained an active member there. She had spent most of her life in Charlevoix, Mich., where she was employed by the Charlevoix Chamber of Commerce. Prior to that, she spent several years managing group reservations and customer relations in the hotel industry.
Violet is survived by two sisters, Velma Thirkield of Green Forest, Ark., and Vera Tranbarger of Black Diamond, Wash.; two sons, Kevin K. Speer of East Jordan, Mich., and Kerry D. (Jo Ann) Speer of Kenton; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and numerous friends.
Family and friends, her gardens and wildlife were her passions in life. She had a genuine interest in others and made friends easily. She loved to host barbecues at her home and she was very active and loved being outdoors.
Violet requested no formal services. A memorial will be held in her honor for family and friends at noon Wednesday at the Eddie Cox Senior Citizens Center in Union City.
The family requests that donations be made to the center.
