Laverne Forrester

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Stanleys Chapel United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Frank Gardner and Dennis Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in Stanleys Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of services Friday and family members will serve as pallbearers.
The family requests that memorials be made to Stanleys Chapel United Methodist Church or to Berea Church of Christ.
She was born Oct. 28, 1926, at the Griffin homeplace in the Midway community, daughter of the late Orestus and Madge (Hudson) Griffin. She married Paul McClellan Forrester Dec. 28, 1946. He passed away June 7, 2004. She was a member of Stanleys Chapel United Methodist Church and attended grade school at the former Sunnyside School and the former Rives High School.
When she was young, she would ride to school with her teacher in a horse and buggy. After graduation, she worked two years in Oak Ridge during the development of the first atomic bomb, Little Boy. She then came home to Obion County.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Rob McKnight of Rives; her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Kathy Forrester of Rives; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tracey and Dr. Jim Batey, Shelley McKnight and Andy and Crystal Forrester, all of Union City, and Paige and Jeff Merwin of Murfreesboro; five great-grandchildren; her cousin, Alpha Ruth Worrell of Alamo; and several nieces and nephews.
