James Oliver
He was born July 18, 1930, in Union City, the son of the late Herman Maxwell Oliver and the late Lily Mae (Holly) Oliver. He married the former Annie Lee Alexander Dec. 28, 1953. She died in June 2004.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany during the Korean War. He was a life member of the Jones-Walker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4862, having served as past post commander from 1968-70 and 1973-74. Mr. Oliver was a warehouse manager at the former Lattus Distributing Co. in Woodland Mills.
He is survived by two of his four children, his daughter, Denise (Oliver) Whitson of Union City, and his son, Steve D. Oliver of Union City; and 10 grandchildren, Nick Oliver of Union City, Brett Whitson of Union City, Angela Willett of Troy, Jimmy Oliver Jr. of Chicago, Annie Waters of Strasburg, Va., Zachary Oliver of Winchester, Va., Lucas Oliver of Winchester, Steve Wisdom of Smyrna, Andrew Oliver of Union City and Crystal Oliver of Union City.
He was blessed with many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at White-Ranson Funeral Home Saturday from 5-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be members of the VFW Post 4862, with former Lattus Distributing Co. employees serving as honorary pallbearers.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the White-Ranson Funeral Home chapel, with Bro. James Kinsey officiating. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Oliver requested any memorials be made to the Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sonja D. Oliver; his son, James E. “Jim” Oliver Sr.; three brothers; and his sister.
