Jo Hanna Simmons
Born Thursday, Aug. 5, 1948, in Dyer County, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Tharp and the late Betty (Wiles) Tharp.
Jo Hanna was the owner/operator of the Dairy Queen in Tiptonville. Jo Hanna’s 40-plus years of running the Dairy Queen have made it into a Lake County landmark. She will be remembered fondly for many things, albeit from employees, customers or just typical Lake Countians who resided within the same community with her. If there was an event going on in Lake County, Jo Hanna and the Dairy Queen were certainly involved.
Funeral services for Mrs. Simmons will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Johnson-Williams Funeral Home in Newbern, with Bro. Carl Mills and Mr. Denny Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Newbern. Visitation is set for today from 4:30-8 p.m. at First Baptist Church Tiptonville.
Pallbearers will be Adam McCoy, Jerry Douglas Bargery, Bill Rogers, Jason Haggard, Tony Parker and Cory Glidwell. Honorary pallbearers will be the Dairy Queen employees.
Jo Hanna is survived by her husband, Jim Simmons of Tiptonville; her sister, Phillis Roark (Tom) of Tiptonville; her nephew, Jason Thomas (Kristen); two great-nephews, Hunter Thomas and Taylor Thomas; her stepson, Kyle Simmons (Paula) of Hornbeak; her stepdaughter, Kim Bramlett (Mike) of Antioch; two step-granddaughters, Kealey’ Bramlett and Abigail Simmons; and her step-grandson, Blake Simmons.
