Roger Speed
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Dr. Cecil Sewell officiating, assisted by Barry Little. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Gary Reid, Barry Little, Tommy Hepler, Glenn Howell, Bruce Moss and Mark Speed. Honorary pallbearers will be Lester Burns, Terry Speed, Shaw Speed, Kevin Little, Randy Hansbrough, Don McGaugh, Jerry Graham, Chuck Everett, Jim Heath, Rodger Harrison, Ronnie Johns, Howard Crittenden, Don Lattus and Butch Graven; his nieces, Leigh Ann Little, Renee Postelle and Amy Martinek; and the employees of Speed Ag: Raymond Jones, T.J. Petty, Danny Jones and Matt Corum.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Amyloid Research Fund at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in care of the Amyloid Foundation, 7151 North Main St., Ste. 2, Clarkston, MI 48346; or Union City First Baptist Church.
He was born Feb. 7, 1950, in Obion County, son of the late Marshall Wright and Lucille (Maynard) Speed. He was married to the former Dianne Herman June 20, 1969. She survives.
He had worked in the fertilizer business at the former Cayce Lime Co. and at Speed Ag for 47 years. He was a member of Union City First Baptist Church.
Sports were his life. He played in the Ken-Tenn Softball League for many years and was an avid golfer and a member of Poplar Meadows Country Club.
His dog, Satch, accompanied him everywhere.
He is survived by his wife; two sons and his daughter-in-law, Steven Speed of Memphis and Rodney and Cary Speed of Union City; and three grandchildren, Chandler Speed, Cross Speed and Regan Speed, all of Union City, who will escort Satch to the grave site at East View Cemetery.
He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Betty Speed of Union City; and two other sisters-in-law and the husband of one, Faye and Barry Little of Newbern and Sue Hansbrough of Nesbitt, Miss.
