Eldon Woods
Services were March 14 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Durham.
He was born June 23, 1921, in Union City, son of the late Agen and Ermie Woods. He attended public school in Union City and served in the U.S. Army, receiving the American Theater Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the 92nd Infantry Division PFC and was stationed at Fort Myers, Va., and Fort Bragg, N.C.
He worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital for 38 years as a supply clerk and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He looked forward to attending activities at the Elks Lodge and his passions included making barbecue sauce, wine and cooking.
He was married to the former Alice Thorpe, whom he met in Washington, D.C., for 61 years. She preceded him in death.
He is also survived by two sons, Robert Woods of San Diego and Terry Lee Woods of Bahama, N.C.; his daughter, Janet Williams of Universal City, Texas; and his grandchildren.
He waspreceded in death by two sons, James Ralph Woods and Edward Thorpe; two sisters, Lucy Harris and Hanus Powell; and his niece, Barbara Turner.
