Hazel Downing
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Dr. Bobby Williams officiating.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel in Illinois. Local visitation will begin at noon Saturday at White-Ranson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Fremont Cemetery near Union City.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
She was born on Feb. 17, 1930, in Troy to the late Aubrey A. and Lola (Griffin) Huey. She married Claude T. Downing March 5, 1950, in Mississippi. He preceded her in death July 5, 1999, in Union City.
Hazel was a housekeeper at the Belwood Nursing Home in Peoria for several years.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kathryn Smith; her son, Buddy Downing; and two brothers.
She is survived by eight children, Patricia Defreitas and Melba Romack, both of Mapleton, Brenda Adams of Springfield, Mo., Janice Willmon of Mapleton, Thomas and Randall Downing, both of Glasford, Ill., Barbara Juneman of Bartonville, Ill., and Gary Downing of Mapleton. She has 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and is also survived by her sister, Cynthia Collett-Cook of Arkansas, and her half brother, Charles “Tuffy” Huey of Tennessee.
