Fred Goddard

Fred Thomas Goddard, 98, of Union City died Aug. 23, 2013, at Golden Living Center.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Revs. John and Claudia Polsgrove and the Rev. Paul Sternisha officiating.
Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held noon until the funeral hour Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Jim Goddard, Joey O’Neil, Alex O’Neil, Sam Nailling, Tyler Neeley and Pete Quinton.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Masonic Lodge 538 in Union City.
The family requests memorials be made to Union City First Christian Church.
He was born April 23, 1915, in Illinois, son of the late Charles Elbert and Lena Hunter (Rose) Goddard. He married Mary Katherine (Harthcock) Kirk in March 1986. She survives. He was a retired furniture salesman for the former Warehouse Furniture Co. in Union City. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a 50-year member of the Masonic lodge and was a member of Eastern Star, Al Chymia Shrine Club in Memphis and American Legion Post 55 in Martin.
He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Sherry Roper Leggins of Martin; his stepson, John E. Kirk of Union City; two stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and his sister, Marjorie Smith of Decatur, Ill.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Griggs Goddard; his second wife, LaNelle Vinson Roper Goddard; five brothers and a sister.
