Melissa Kernodle

Melissa Leon Kernodle, 92, of Kenton passed away from this life on July 29, 2013, at Dyer Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Kenton, with Wayne Perkins and Dr. Brian Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery near Kenton.
The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Kenton and from 9 a.m.-noon Sunday at Karnes & Son Funeral Home in Kenton.
She was born Nov. 23, 1920, in Chester County, daughter of the late Ocie and Effie Patterson. She was retired from Dyer Brown Shoe Company.  
Mrs. Kernodle is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Virginia Wilson of Memphis and Barbara and Ronnie Hunt and Juanita Clark, all of Kenton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Joe Durrance of Selmer and Lila and Kent Thomas of Peoria, Ill.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, J.W. and Tommie Jean Patterson of Henderson and Hugh and Kettye Patterson of Washington, Ill.; and seven grandchildren and the spouses of four, Rhonda and Michael Poore, Chad and Christi Hunt, Celina and Kevin Johnson, Brent Thornton, Chris Sims, George and Byrn Wilson and Kern Wilson. She is also survived by two very special caretakers, Mike and Linda Holder; and a best friend, Permelia “Permie” Thompson.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Edward Kernodle; her daughter, Janice Kernodle; four brothers, Wallace Patterson, Ruben Patterson, Ocie Patterson Jr. and Tommie Patterson; and her sister, Blonnie Keathley.
