He was born Nov. 25, 1931, in Bluefield, W.Va., to the late Estel and Bertie Vass. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. A champion for the railroad, he worked it for 45 years as brakeman to conductor. He loved telling stories of the railroad. He attended Troy First Baptist Church. His love of life was affectionately displayed by volunteering at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City and serving as a volunteer fireman and paramedic for Homer Township.
Survivors include his children, Brian Vass, Brad Vass and Barbara Vass; his grandchild, Stephanie; two brothers and his sister-in-law, Chuck and Roger and Dreama; and his sister, Elizabeth.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Barbara; two brothers, James and George; and his sister, Elizabeth.
