ANCIENT HISTORY

ANCIENT HISTORY — The severe thunderstorms that pushed through the area recently featured straight-line winds that reached around 70 mph at times, snapping telephone poles, causing structure damage and uprooting trees. In the backyard of 4461 Countrywood St. in Union City, Russell and Gilda Kitchen lost what had been the oldest tree in their neighborhood. Mrs. Kitchen was home alone when the tree, estimated to be well over 100 years old, fell, damaging a neighbor’s garage and flattening a shed and the fence that separated the Kitchens’ property from the neighbor’s. Kitchen inspected the tree when he arrived home shortly after the storm, saying he was shocked the tree hadn’t damaged his or their neighbor’s home and was grateful no one had been injured.
