Hayward Laster, 83, of Union City passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Exchange Street Church of Christ. Rob Laster will officiate. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery near Hornbeak.
Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Saturday.
Pallbearers will be Tim and Ted Laster, Jock and Jai Johnson, Rob Laster and Dustin Brewer. Past drivers of the former Reelfoot Packing Company and the men of Exchange Street Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
He was born in Tiptonville on Oct. 4, 1938, to the late James Robert Laster and the late Wilmena Mitchell Laster. He married Jean Clark Laster on June 22, 1970. She survives.
He was a member of Exchange Street Church of Christ, where he was a former elder. He was a truck driver for the former Reelfoot Packing Company for many years, and was an owner and operator truck driver.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Tammy Forbus and her husband, Jeff, of Rives; sons, Timmy Laster and Teddy Laster, both of Union City, Rob Laster and his wife, Shanda, of Nesbit, Miss., and Jock Johnson and his wife, Kim, and Jai Johnson, all of Union City; 13 grandchildren, Mandy Brewer, Courtney Redd, Dustin Brewer, Luke Laster, Kelsey Johnson, Colton Brewer, Riley Laster, Karli Wilson, Calli Johnson, Morgan King, Nick Laster, Averi Laster and Emma Laster; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, James Myers.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope.
