Richard Davis Skiles Jr., 68, of Kenton passed away from this life on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Skiles were conducted on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Kenton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Varden and Bro. Bo McEwen officiating. Interment followed in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Richard was born Sept. 5, 1953, in Humboldt, the son of the late Richard Davis Skiles Sr. and Virginia Dillaha Skiles.
Richard loved his community so much. He, along with several business friends, spearheaded the effort to keep Kenton School. After several years of tirelessly working, a new K-4 was built and continues to serve the Kenton community. He was the current secretary/treasurer and so immensely proud of this school. He was currently serving on the Board of Trustees as secretary/treasurer of the Gibson County Electric Membership Cooperation; chairman of the Alcoholic Beverage Commission, serving the West Tennessee area; and was an avid University of Tennessee fan — GO VOLS!
Richard’s favorite hobby was being at Kenton Drugs helping people. He was co-owner for 43 years with Jim Turner and Cara Marvin. He was constantly learning new techniques. He loved his customers, many who were dear friends.
Richard loved his family dearly.
More than anything else, he had a deep faith in God. He served all areas of Kenton United Methodist Church, where he currently was the Adult Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Jones Skiles; three children, Patrick Skiles (Jennifer), Brandon Skiles (Angela) and Katherine McDonald (Steve); and six grandchildren, Penelope Skiles, Reece Skiles, Virginia McDonald, Tanner Foy, Ean Foy and Ada Foy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and beloved uncle, Raymond Skiles.
