Lester B. Barber, age 98, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at the Tennessee State Veteran’s Hospital, Humboldt. Funeral service was held at noon today (Tuesday), at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin, with Bro. Sidney White officiating. Burial followed at Gardner Cemetery with military honors. Barber was a member of Gardner Church of Christ (former Elder); he was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II (1940-1954), and was co-owner with his son of Barber Machine Company. He is survived by a daughter, Cindy (Steve) Adams of Martin; and two sons, Mike (Kathy) Barber of Spring Hill and Jeff Barber of Martin; seven grandchildren, John (Kelly) Barber of Knoxville, Jill (Mark) Love, Tracy (Thomas) McDermid, and Triva (Jay) DeWeese, all of Spring Hill, Nichole Adams of Martin, Alesha (Chad) Ezelle of Milan and Riley (Chris) McIlwain, Destin, Florida; nine great-grandchildren; Cavin Barber, Wyatt Barber, Bailey DeWeese, Easton Ezelle, Eli Ezelle, Hunter Barber, Carter McIlwain, Claire McIlwain, and Jack McIlwain; two sisters, Jessie Lee Holde of Memphis and Louise Younger of Scearcy, Arkansas; one brother, Jerry (Martha Rhea) Barber of Louisville; one sister-in-law, Ruth Smith of Martin; and one brother-in-law, Joe (Faye) Smith of Martin. Barber was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mildred Smith Barber; a brother, Johnny Barber; and his parents, George Dewey and Dovie Hinson Barber.
