James ‘Pete’ Laird

Mr. James “Pete” Laird 93, a resident of South Fulton, died Monday at Diversicare of Martin.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Bro. Danny Walker officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Mr. Laird was born March 8, 1926 in Rives, son of the late Jess and Nellie (Russell) Laird. He married Ruby Nell (Sparks) May 14, 1966, and she passed away Feb. 11, 2017.
He was a retired forklift operator for Union City Coca-Cola, where he worked for over 30 years, and he was of the Pentecostal faith.
Mr. Laird is survived by one daughter, Mary Nell Grooms of Union City; three stepdaughters, Brenda Martin Louisville Ky., Judy Whitener of South Fulton and Betty Middleton of Lakeland Fla.; one stepson, Larry Sparks of Martin; a sister, Lillie Bell of South Fulton; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Laird, and seven brother and sisters.
