Lawrence “Cap” Bill Everett

Lawrence “Cap” Bill Everett, 98, of Hickman, Ky., passed away Friday, March 1, 2019, at the Arbors in Union City, where he had been a resident for the two years prior to his passing.
Services for Bill were to be held 1 p.m. today at Strong Funeral Home in Hickman. Jason Sipes was to officiate.
Visitation was to be held from 11 a.m. today until the hour of services at the funeral home.
Bill was born in Bondurant, Fulton County, Ky. April 27, 1920, to the late Lawrence Breckinridge and Lillie Belle Everett.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He worked the Mississippi River as a tow boat operator, later on retiring from the Corps of Engineers as a survey boat pilot. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.
In his spare time, he enjoyed driving heavy equipment, having built many ponds in and around Fulton and Obion counties.
He is survived by three daughters, Carolyn Brandon of Union City and Kay Franco and Joan (Bob) Zimmerman, all of Concord, N.C.; one son, David (Amy) Everett of Reelfoot Lake; nine grandchildren, Robin Chandler of South Fulton, Jacquine (Larry) Young of Phoenix, Nesha (Mike) Coleman and Craig Inman, all of Concord, Andrea Jackson of Cornelius, N.C., Bill (Emily) Oliver and Wayne (Amy Wilkerson) Oliver, all of Charlotte, N.C., Keith (Jill) Brasfield of Raleigh, N.C., and Tonya (Butch) Estes of Willington, Fla.; son-in-law, Jerry Helms of Marco Island, Fla.; and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Mae; a daughter, Shirley Helms; an infant son, John Larry Everett; four sisters; and three brothers.

    Bill was my Papa. I was there with him the last week of his life. He was like a fresher to me growing up. Love him. Miss him.
