THE ICE MAN COMETH — John Blanton, warehouse manager at Aloha Pools & Spas in Union City, dumped a wheelbarrow full of ice into a swimming pool Monday to illustrate how cold the water could be on Feb. 9 for the 8th Annual Polar Plunge, which raises funds and awareness for Upper West Tennessee-Area 7 Special Olympics. The plunge will get under way at 1 p.m., preceded by on-site registration starting at noon. Volunteer plungers can lend their support to the cause by collecting donations for jumping into the chilly waters of an Aloha pool. A minimum of $50 in donations will earn each plunger a long-sleeve Polar Plunge shirt and bragging rights. Participants may register by going online to Blanton has taken the plunge every year and consistently been a top fund-raiser since the event’s inception in 2012.
