Alvin Payne

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, with the Rev. A.E. McCadney officiating.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Rawls Funeral Home in Union City is in charge of arrangements.
 Alvin Thomas Payne Sr. was born Feb. 4, 1944, in Union City and is the son of the late L.T. and Minnie Pearl Payne. He was a graduate of the former Miles High School. He worked as a firefighter for the City of Union City. After earning the rank of captain with 30 years of service, he retired in February 1999.
He was married to Eleanor (McClain) Payne for over 44 years.
Dumpy is survived by his wife, Eleanor Payne of Union City; his sister, Patricia Kerney of Union City; eight children and their spouses, Darry Payne and Michelle McCloud of Lancaster, Calif., Kenny and Porcha McCloud and Kevin and Dawn McCloud, all of Los Angeles, Julius and Tamela McCloud of Chesapeake Bay, Va., Alvin Detrick and Latreace of Nashville, Alvin Payne Jr. and Margaret Payne of Portsmouth, Va., Jeanine Duggon of Union City and William Duggon of Quincy, Ill.; a granddaughter whom he and his wife raised, Alycia Duggon of Norfolk, Va.; his sister-in-law, Vivian Payne of Jackson, Mich.; 37 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Two brothers and his sister also preceded him in death.
