Services will be Saturday at noon at Union City First United Methodist Church, with his son, the Rev. James Elam, officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.
Visitation will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church. Rawls Funeral Home in Union City is in charge of arrangements.
He was born May 7, 1925, in Gibson, son of the late Milton and Lettie Elam. A retired farm worker, he was married to the former Bessie Talley Dec. 24, 1946. She survives. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors also include his children and their spouses, Alice Murray and Lynette and James Parks, all of Detroit, Bruce and Betty Elam and Edward and Jackie Elam, all of Hickman, Ky., Geneva Bolden of Ridgely, Jerry Elam of Elgin, Ill., Tom and Mae Elam, Lettie and Donnie Johnson and Richard and Beverly Elam, all of Union City, Lonnie Elam of Hermitage and the Rev. James and Regina Elam and Howard and Jackie Elam, all of Dyersburg; his brother, Richard Lee Elam of Cleveland, Ohio; his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Elam of Tiptonville; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his son, John Elam; and his daughter, Shirley Marie (Elam) Jones.
