Dewey Chism

He was the father of Randy Chism and the grandfather of Ashlyn Chism and Caroline Chism, all of Union City.
Services were 1 p.m. Thursday at Brummitt-McKenzie Funeral Home, with burial following near McKenzie in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
The family requests that memorials be made to McKenzie Church of Christ; Ricky Chism Baseball Scholarship at Murray State University; or Union City High School girls’ softball team.
He was born Jan. 22, 1940, in Baldwyn, Miss, son of the late Jesse Lee and Zelma Dewdrop (Ringer) Chism. He was a teacher, coach and principal and was a member of McKenzie Church of Christ, where had had served as a deacon. Throughout his life, he was a member of the Rotary Club, National Education Association, Tennessee Education Association and Carroll County Retired Teachers Association.
He had been inducted into the Bethel University Sports Hall of Fame. He also served in the National Guard for eight years.
Survivors also include his wife of 50 years, Keitha (Hatley) Chism; two sisters, Sue (Chism) Little and Betty (Chism) Floyd; eight brothers, J.W. Chism, Kenneth Chism, Jesse Chism Jr., David Chism, Jackie Chism, Mitchell Chism, Bill Chism and J.C. Chism.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ricky Chism; two brothers, LeRoy Chism and Charles Chism; and his nephew, Adam Chism.
