Mattie Cutwright

Services were held recently at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories at Overton Family Service in Waterloo, Iowa, with burial in Chapel Hill at Merle Hay in Des Moines, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
She was born July 12, 1925, in Stamps, Ark., daughter of the late Paul and Sallie (Gaither) Johnson. She married Louis Cutwright Sr. Feb. 1, 1942, in Camden, Ark. He preceded her in death.
She spent 16 years as a cook for former Iowa Gov. Robert Ray, who appointed her to the Friendship Force, which provided her with a love of travel to places such as Israel, Russia, Hawaii and Ireland. She and her husband also traveled from New Orleans to Canada and from New York to California.
She is also survived by another son and two daughters-in-law, Louis and Patricia Cutwright of Waterloo and Ruth Cutwright of Union City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Opal and Walter Graves of Omaha, Neb., and Jo Ann and John Mercer of Houston; three young men her family nurtured, Robert, Larry and Harmon; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, John D. Johnson of Des Moines; and three sisters and her brother-in-law, Thresser Edwards and Mary and Sylvester McCracken, all of Des Moines, and Elizabeth Limbrick of California.
She was also preceded in death by three sons, infant twins Ronald and Donald, and Steven; her daughter, Shirley Cutwright; her sister, Jessie Martin; and two brothers, Paul Johnson Jr. and James Johnson.
Mattie will be remembered for her beauty, inside and out.
