Evelyn Solmon

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at White-Mahon Funeral Home, with the Rev. Judd Mowery and the Rev. Phillip Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Sanders Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at White-Mahon Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mike Mobbs, Harold Fowlkes, Chad Fowlkes, Randy Coleman, Mike Barnett and Chad Davidson.
She was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Union City, daughter of the late Lewis and Lucy Mai Smith Mobbs. She married Merrell Solmon on Nov. 24, 1936. He died July 3, 1982.
She was a member of Sanders Chapel United Methodist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday School and held many offices. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and keeping a journal of her life.
She is survived by a daughter, Novie Cochran and her husband Wayne Cochran of Union City; two sons, Lew Solmon and his wife Nancy Solmon of Troy and Paul and his wife Brenda Solmon of Gulfport, Miss.; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a brother and his wife, James Harold and Norma Mobbs of Union City; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, three sisters and four brothers.
The family has asked that memorials be sent to the Sanders Chapel Cemetery Association or Union City’s Hometown Walk of Hope.
