James Garrett
Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Edmaiston-Mosley Funeral Home. Jimmy Ketchum will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Wesley McDaniel, Chris Boulanger II, Gary Meeks, Chris Legate, Scott Legate, Brad Babbitt and Jeff Alexander. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Alexander, John Babbitt and Ted Doss.
Mr. Garrett was born Dec. 26, 1941, in Dyersburg, son of the late William Erby and Eliza Jane (Campbell) Garrett. James was named athlete of the year in 1962 at Dyersburg High School, where he still holds several records in track and field and football. He was retired from the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as a master machinist. James had served in the Tennessee National Guard and was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by three daughters and his son-in-law, Michelle Garrett and Ginger Alexander, both of Hickman, Ky., and Cinnamon and Jamie Wilson of Afghanistan; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances Jean and Ted Doss and Shirley and John Babbitt, all of Dyersburg; four stepchildren, Lore Hopper of Danville, Va., Scott Legate of Union City, Stephanie Buchanan and her husband, Kevin Buchanan, of Kenton and Chris Legate of Little Rock, Ark.; 11 grandchildren, Sabrena McDaniel of Kenton, Chris Boulanger II and his wife, Brittany Boulanger, serving with the U.S. Air Force in Hampton, Va., Wesley McDaniel of Springville, Breeanna Boulanger of Springfield, Ill., Kayra Alexander of Union City, Heath Richee, serving with the U.S. Army in Savannah, Ga., Tori Pease of Halls, Gabby Alexander of Monessin, Pa., Cody Wison and Savannah Wilson, both of Irvington, Ala., and Nick Powell of Virginia; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
