Mai Ethel Hayslett
Completed arrangements are being announced for Mai Ethel (Bass) Hayslett of Union City who died March 1, 2014, at her home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Herman Missionary Baptist Church in Woodland Mills, with the Rev. Otis James Jones officiating.
Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Rawls Funeral Home in Union City.
Pallbearers will be Frank James, Marshall Quinn, Larry Johnson, Grant Blair, Jackie Thomas and Joe Blair.
Honorary pallbearers will be Willis J. Hayslett Sr., Billy T. Hayslett, Jeffery Hayslett Sr., Scottie L. Hayslett, Jeffery Hayslett Jr., Savion J. Hayslett and Quentin L. Dodson.
She was born Jan. 11, 1932, in Rives, daughter of the late Joe Davis “JD” and Roxie Bass. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Henry W.J. Hayslett June 1, 1953. She was a loving wife and mother. She accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined Brown’s Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. In 2005, she renewed her commitment to Christ at Mount Herman Missionary Baptist Church in Woodland Mills.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Willis J. and Catherine Hayslett, Billy T. and Redina Hayslett and Jeffery Hayslett, all of Union City; three daughters and two sons-in- law, Ina J. Dowell, Mai L. and Harry Hayes, all of Union City, and Hilda J. and Gray Moore of Martin; her sister, Jessie Haskins of Union City; her sister-in-law, Doris Bass of Union City; 20 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and two grandchildren.
