Marie Broadstreet

Marie Garey Broadstreet, 94, of Jackson passed into the loving arms of our Lord on Jan. 14, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City, where she had recently made her home at Magnolia Place.
She was formerly a resident for 20 years of St. Mary Manor in Jackson, serving as president of the resident council.
Graveside services will be at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Cedar Grove Saturday at 1 p.m. A memorial reception will be held at St. Mary Manor on Feb. 4 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Mrs. Broadstreet was born in Bemis to the late Chester and Lillie Garey. She married Eugene Kenneth Broadstreet on Dec. 25, 1942, in Corinth, Miss., while he was on leave during World War II. She graduated from Lavinia/Trezevant School, serving as basketball team captain and class president and attended Secretarial College in Nashville. She was the business owner of the first 24-hour Telephone Answering Service in Jackson, later worked as a designer at Burnley’s Flower Shop and loved collecting antiques with her husband. Her faith membership rested with Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Broadstreet Barker and son-in-law, Wayne Barker, of Union City; her son, Michael Broadstreet, and friend, Janet Crowe of Calhoun; grandchildren, Jason Broadstreet, Angela Sloan, Tyler Barker and Parks Barker; and two great-grandchildren, Braxton Sloan and Ryleigh Broadstreet.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bartie Garey, James Garey and Clyde Garey.
Pallbearers are Tommy Garey, David Johnson, Dr. Mark Fowler, Jason Broadstreet, Tyler Barker, Parks Barker and Wayne Barker.
