Joe H. Spears, 83, of Laurel, Miss., died Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Memory Chapel of Laurel with Dr. Randall Turner officiating with burial to follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Laurel. Visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. Saturday, at Memory Chapel, which is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be the Charles Pickering Sunday School Class and the Friday morning Prayer Group.
Spears was a retired electrical engineer and a member of First Baptist Church of Laurel where he served as a deacon, was a member of the Charles Pickering Sunday School Class and the Men’s Friday Morning Prayer Group. He was also a master gardener and a veteran of the U.S. military serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Namco International Oil Exploration Corp. in Libya, North Africa and in Texas; Westinghouse in Pennsylvania; G. E. in Syracuse, NY; Mepco Electronics Corp. and Komet Electronics in Greenwood, SC, prior to moving to Laurel where he made his home for the past 18 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Betty Neel Spears of Laurel; one daughter, Jeannine Howell and husband Lowell of Laurel; and two grandchildren, Mason Howell and Hoven Howell.
