Jim Hill Jr.

James Edward Hill Jr., 63, a resident of Union City, died at his home Aug. 12, 2013.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Obion County Memorial Gardens. The services will be presided over by the Rev. Chip Davis, who will be assisted by the Rev. Greg Whaley.
Visitation will be from noon until the hour of service at White-Ranson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Paul Cunningham, Kenneth Stover, Danny Whaley, the Rev. Greg Whaley, Chuck Wheelis and Donnie Morris.
The family has requested that memorials be sent to Lake Road Baptist Church or First Baptist Church of Union City.
He was born Aug. 18, 1949, in Peoria, Ill., to the late Jim Hill Sr. and Mildred Hill of Union City. His stepmother is Marilyn Hill of Union City.
Jim had a lifetime of love for horses and he spent his entire life rodeoing, training and shoeing horses. In 1975, he was ranked seventh in the country in bareback bronc riding by the International Rodeo Association. He was a Vietnam Marine veteran and while in basic training at Parris Island, he was ranked first in his platoon and as such was awarded his dress blues and private first class status. Jim served in the First Marine Division in Vietnam.
In addition to his mother and stepmother, Jim is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Rucker Wheelis of Union City; three nephews, the Rev. Chuck Wheelis of Troy, Danny Whaley of Union City and Greg Whaley of Bogalusa, La.
In addition to his father, Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Whaley.
