Donnie Walton, a current teacher at Obion County Central High School, has been named the new assistant director at the Tennessee Technology Center in Newbern.
Walton has been a teacher at OCCHS for the past seven years and is the boys’ and girls’ golf coach.
He has also served in the capacity of crisis management co-chairman for Obion County schools during his tenure with the county school system.
He will begin his new position with TTC on March 14.
The TTC-Newbern facility currently offers classes in business systems technology, electronics, automotive technology, industrial maintenance, heating and air, drafting/CAD, nursing, machine tool technology and welding.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to serve in this capacity at the Tennessee Technology Center in Newbern,” Walton said. “Director Donna Hastings and I, along with faculty and staff, have expansion plans of our existing programs, making training more accessible to Obion and Weakley county residents.
“I also want to make our local high school students more aware of what we have to offer at TTC-Newbern,” he added.
Walton was raised in Obion and is a graduate of OCCHS. He has a bachelor’s degree in business management and a master’s degree in education. He previously worked as a California Highway Patrol officer before returning home and becoming employed as a teacher/coach for the Obion County School System.
He resides in Troy and is married to Kelly Walton. They have two sons, Tyler and Carter.
