The Sevier County High School Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization, established the Rainwater Family Scholarship to provide scholarships for students pursuing college studies in pre-medicine and music education.
The late Nancy (Rain-water) Gilliam of Union City and Laura (Rainwater) Trundle of Maryville — who are sisters — created a scholarship for Sevier County High School graduating seniors and awarded it last year to a student majoring in music education at Tennessee Technological University.
This year, a pre-medicine student will receive the scholarship in memory of Mrs. Gilliam, a lifelong public health nurse. Both she and Mrs. Trundle graduated from Sevier County High School in 1954 and 1953, respectively, and were valedictorians of their classes.
The two sisters’ alma maters created the SCHS Foundation and have been awarding scholarships for 12 years.
To donate to the foundation, mail checks to the SCHS Foundation, P.O. Box 4124, Sevierville, TN 37864; visit the foundation’s website at www.schsfoundation.com; or call (865) 607-0032.
