Jr. Lions move on in T-N-T

Both Dresden Middle School teams have advanced to the second round of the T-N-T State Tournament in Springfield after winning their first round games on Saturday.
The Lady Lions beat Waynesboro Middle School 39-36, while Dresden’s boys won 40-34 over Waynesboro.
Dresden’s girls will play CPA 7:30 p.m. Friday at Springfield Middle School, while the boys face Lipscomb 8 p.m. at The Center.
The Lady Lions took a 22-17 lead at the half after both team battled to a 10-all first period tie. Callen Killibrew scored all seven of her points in the second period to help the Lady Lions take the lead.
Dresden took a 32-24 lead at the end of the third period and then had to hit some key free throws in the final frame to hold off Waynesboro. Dresden hit 4-of-7 from the line.
Kasey Gallimore hit both of her free throw attempts in the final period to give the Lady Lions a much-needed lift. Dresden had a poor night at the line, making only 5-of-11 shots for the game.
Grace Finch led the Lady Lions with 10 points. Sledd scored nine with Gallimore and Killibrew tossing in seven each.
The Lions won their game in the boys’ Class 3A bracket. Dresden beat Waynesboro 40-34 with Dresser Winn scoring 13 points. Published in The WCP 2.5.13
