Clerks at two Union City convenience stores were each charged with an alcohol offense Saturday night after beer was allegedly sold to someone underage.
Misdemeanor citations were issued to Colton Thomas Lewis, 19, of 1316 Oak St., Union City, a clerk at Raceway convenience store at 1602 West Reelfoot Ave., and to Kelsey Jeanette Lew, 23, of 517 Melrose St., Union City, a clerk at Express Shop convenience store at 2031 West Reelfoot Ave.
Each was cited for unlawful sale of alcohol to a person under the age of 21, according to Union City Police Department reports.
Police reported an individual who is under age 21 who was working for the police department entered Raceway about 7 p.m. Saturday and allegedly was able to purchase a six-pack of beer from a clerk, identified as Lewis. Likewise, police said someone under age 21, also working for the police department, entered Express Shop about 7:10 p.m. and allegedly was able to buy a six-pack of beer from a clerk, identified as Ms. Lew.
Police returned to both stores and issued the citations for the offense.
