The Obion County Public Library hosts several programs with children and youth in mind. The following activities are planned for February:
• Pre-school story time for children up to 5 years old will be Mondays at 10 a.m. Stories and snacks are always offered and sometimes there is a puppet show and crafts.
• Take Your Child to the Library Day is set for Saturday, with a special story time at 10 a.m. for all ages. Children will hear a story and enjoy a craft and small snack. No sign-up is required.
• tWeen Book Club meets Thursday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. for youngsters 10-12 years old who want to discuss their book selections from the previous month.
• Writers Club for middle school and high school students will meet Feb. 14 to read and discuss an ongoing writing game.
• TAG Murder Mystery will offer participants the opportunity to dress up and entertain each other in a role play game where anyone could turn out to be the killer. Registration is required for this event, open to those 13 and older and sponsored by the Teen Advisory Group, on Feb. 14 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
• TBC Movie Outing, set for Feb. 16 at 5 p.m., will focus on the film version of the book “Beautiful Creatures.” Members of the Teen Book Club are reading this book and will be able to see it in a movie setting and then walk to a nearby restaurant for dinner and a time of comparing the movie and the book. Anyone 13 years old or older is welcome to attend. Contact the library’s children’s department for details.
• Teen Book Club will meet Feb. 21 from 4-5 p.m. for those 13-19 years old. Last month’s book choice will be discussed and a new book will be selected.
• Kids Craft Time will be Feb. 27 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. for those in kindergarten through sixth grade. The focus will be on celebrating the Chinese New Year. Preregistration is required and there is a $2 fee for supplies.
• Teen Advisory Group will meet Feb. 28 from 4-5 p.m. Teens needing community service hours for Beta Club, Tennessee Scholars, Magnet School or Rotary Trip Abroad hours are encouraged to take part to meet requirements for those hours and to enjoy lots of fun, a spokesman said.
