Weapons charge filed Posted: Tuesday, January 29, 2013 4:00 pm The Messenger, January 29, 2013 A Troy man was charged with a weapons offense following a traffic stop Monday morning in Union City. Christopher Jay Beeler, 41, of 127 Cochran St., Troy, was arrested at 7:25 a.m. in the 1200 block of East Main Street on charges of driving on a suspended license and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, according to a Union City Police Department report and court records. He was also issued a citation for expired tags and no proof of insurance, police reported. Police stopped a pickup truck driven by Beeler as a result of the vehicle’s allegedly having an expired tag. The arresting officer subsequently learned Beeler’s driver’s license was suspended, resulting in his arrest on the driver’s license offense. During a search of the vehicle, police found a shotgun lying in the back seat of the truck. The barrel had been removed from the gun. The officer ran a criminal history, which showed Beeler to be a convicted felon as the result of a conviction on felony drug charges in 2003, according to the report. Police also recovered a .22 rifle and a loaded rifle with a scope in the tool box of the pickup truck, as well as several types of ammunition in the vehicle cab. , |
