OC-South Gibson
has mid-week date

Obion Central’s makeup game against South Gibson has been rescheduled for Feb. 6.
The District 13AA twinbill, which was postponed from Friday night when the Obion County School System shut down for two days due to a flu outbreak, will be played in Troy.
The girls’ game will begin at 3:30 p.m., with the boys’ contest to follow, according to OCHS Athletic Director Craig Rogers.
The Wednesday date was necessary due to other already-scheduled makeup dates and to keep the Rebel teams from playing five nights this week. OC played Ripley Monday night, visits Milan tonight, hosts Crockett County Friday and is at home to play Haywood Saturday.
Central now has three games slated next week, with a home game Tuesday vs. Westview and an away game at Covington Feb. 8.

Rebel fans can meet
new football coach

The meet-and-greet of new Obion County Central head football coach Kevin Gultra has been rescheduled for Feb. 9.
The event, sponsored by the Rebel Quarterback Club, will be held at the OCCHS Fieldhouse from 2-4 p.m.
Originally set for mid-January, Gultra’s first public appearance as OC head coach was postponed when his wife, Tiffany, delivered twin boys to the Gultra household a couple of weeks early. Both mother and sons are doing well, according to Gultra.
A Quarterback Club meeting will be held Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. at the fieldhouse.

Newsome ended her night with 28 points — 23 in the second half — to go along with seven assists and three steals. Butler, who tied an NCAA record with her 69th consecutive game making a three-pointer, compiled 25 points, canning five 3-pointers and tallying a career-best eight assists.
Skyhawk senior Rickiesha Bryant compiled 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for her fourth double-double in OVC play. Senior forward Shelby Crawford also added nine points and seven rebounds for UT Martin (10-13, 5-4 OVC).
Eastern Illinois (13-8, 7-2 OVC) was led by Mariah King with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior outfielder Leah Taylor and head coach Donley Canary from UT Martin’s softball team were named College Sports Madness’ 2013 Ohio Valley Preseason Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.
Taylor led the OVC in hits (77), runs scored (61), triples (10) and stolen bases (37).
Canary, who enters his 12th season as the UTM coach, led the Skyhawks to a 23-6 worksheet this past season in the OVC. Overall, the Skyhawks were 39-22 en route to their second regular-season title in the past three years.
