SFMS girls alive in area event | | Posted: Tuesday, January 29, 2013 7:00 pm
| The South Fulton’s girls were the lone survivors of Obion County’s four entries to play in the opening night of the Area 5 Middle School Tournament Monday night. The Devilettes advanced to Wednesday’s semifinals with a convincing 54-19 win over Ridgemont. SF (14-5), the third seed, will play No. 2 Martin (11-4) — team it has lost to twice handily earlier this season. Ridgemont’s season is over after its Monday setback. Both Hillcrest teams saw the curtain pulled on their 2012-13 campaign by Paris Inman, the Lady Cougars losing 44-26, and the boys dropping a 60-24 decision. Wednesday’s semifinals in the event are now set with top-seed Lake Road to play Inman at 4 p.m. and SF to battle Martin at 6:30 on the girls’ side. In the boys’ semis, No. 1 South Fulton faces Inman at 5:15, while Ridgemont and Martin play at 7:45. The championship games are slated for Thursday at 6 and 7:30, respectively, with both the winner and runnerup advancing to the West Sectional at Martin Middle School in a tournament that begins Saturday.
