Carl David Grimes, 85, of Martin, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at VanAyer Manor Nursing and Rehab Center, Martin.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Waverly with Rev. Randy Cooper and Rev. Phil Ross officiating. Burial will be in Richlawn Cemetery, Waverly with Murphy Funeral Home of Martin in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at the church from 4-7 p.m. Friday.

Grimes was born Jan. 18, 1928 in Hampshire, son of the late Mumford Lewis and Mildred Parks Grimes. He was the widower of Mrs. Peggy Stallings Grimes. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin, was a former University of Tennessee Extension Agent in Humphreys County, and a member of First United Methodist Church in Waverly.

Survivors include two sons, Bud (Virginia) Grimes of Martin and Jimmy Grimes of Nashville; two brothers, Jerry Grimes and Fariss Grimes, both of Mt. Pleasant; and four grandchildren, Mackenzie Grimes, Sydney Grimes, Ashley Grimes and Wesley Grimes; and two step grandchildren, Jacqueline Pitts and Victoria Pitts.
