Friday night was a special night in many ways at Westview High School as the Charger basketball teams hosted Haywood in a District 13AA double-header. In addition to a pair of wins — 65-27 in the girls’ game and 79-70 in the boys’ nightcap — several other special events occured on the floor.
ABOVE: Former Wesview soccer player Adam Reinhard (third from right) had his No. 14 jersey retired in a ceremony held at halftime of the girls’ game. With Reinhard are (from left) athletic director Jeromy Davidson, head coach Dan Scates, and his parents Shari and Dave Reinhard. A four-year starter, Reinhard set a school record with 97 goals and also dished out 35 assists. He was named all-district four years, all-region three years, Region 7A-AA Offensive Most Valuable Player in 2011 and Tennessee Sports Writers Association all-state in 2012.
RIGHT: Following the girls’ win, Lady Chargers’ assistant coach Bethany Palmer was surprised by her boyfriend of six months, Lucas Goodman, who came down to the floor for a very public marriage proposal. Goodman came from behind the team as the players were posing for a picture with senior teammate and High Point University signee Teddy Vincent, who had just been honored for setting a new girls’ single-game scoring record with 42 points in a recent game.
