Coach Phipps
leaves his mark

To the Editor:
When one has been blessed to live into full retirement age, the opportunity for reflection on individuals that molded your life is humbling. Coach Phipps had such a positive influence on so many people. He was such an outstanding coach, mentor and leader. Mr. Guy Ed Phipps died Jan. 15.
During his tenure as head basketball coach for Union City High School, his teams won six consecutive district championships, three regional championships and had a 31-1 season with a second place state championship. However exciting and wonderful these times, they pale in comparison to the ongoing impact Coach Phipps has on the people he touched and taught.
Thanks coach. You were the best.
