Sr. Bowl next for UTM’s Hughes
Montori Hughes, a senior defensive lineman at UT Martin, will make the 175-mile trek to Mobile, Ala., to play in the Senior Bowl on Saturday after having just participated in the Raycom Football All-Star Classic in Montgomery this past weekend.
Hughes was invited to play in the prestigious game after Senior Bowl officials saw Hughes at practice in the Raycom Football All-Star Classic.
A Senior Bowl official confirmed Hughes’ participation on Friday.
Hughes, who transferred to UT Martin from Tennessee his junior season, is one of three Ohio Valley Conference players invited to NFL Scouting Combine Feb. 20-26.
Hughes is ranked as the 19th best defensive tackle by ESPN.
Fans can watch his on-field workout on Feb. 25 on the NFL Network.
He finished the regular season with 42 tackles, 8.5 TFLs, four sacks and 13 quarterback hurries.
The Murfreesboro native was named to The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS second team All-America defensive squad, the All-Ohio Valley Conference first-team defense and the Phil Steele FCS first-team All-American team.
Also playing in the Senior Bowl with Hughes will be Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones, Oregon running back Kenjon Barner, Michigan wide receiver Denard Robinson, Tennessee tight Mychal Rivera, Georgia defensive lineman John Jenkins, Notre Dame offensive lineman Braxston Cave and Alabama linebacker Nico Johnson.
The game will be played at 3 p.m. in Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The NFL Network will televise the game. Published in The Messenger 1.22.13
