Step Crew Ent. of Crossroads Teen Center is celebrating its one-year anniversary January 20-26, and as a way of saying “thank you” to a community that has shown them so much love and support during the past year, they are hosting a Founders’ Day Week, full of events that the community is encouraged and welcome to take part in.

Nearly one year ago on January 26, 2012, the Tau Psi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc. paid a visit to Martin Housing Authority’s Crossroads Teen Center to host a night called “Stepping with the Teens.” The fraternity brothers performed and taught the kids a few of their step moves. Chapter President and Crossroads Teen Center Program Assistant Rashunn Cheney recognized how the teens took to the performance, and decided he wanted to put a team together.

This dynamic group immediately created a buzz at UTM and in the community. Step Crew has performed at multiple campus events, at the Sharon Corn and Music Festival and Soybean Festival Parade, received 3rd place at the Soy Bean Festival Talent Show, competed in the Mid South Fair talent show, won first place at the Tennessee Teens Institute talent show, and has recently performed as the halftime show for UTM’s Men’s and Women’s basketball games.

Along the way, Cheney had a vision to make these teens more than a performance group. He wanted to help mold them into the leaders of tomorrow. He strongly instilled in them the principles of leadership and community service. Step Crew puts these ideals into action through volunteering and encouraging their peers to be the best version of themselves. Their motto is “Serve First, Step Next”.

Step Crew is very appreciative of the support it has received from the community. Founders’ Week is open to all community members, and Step Crew encourages everyone to take part. The week’s events are as follows:
