Scam reported

A local resident has reported he received a scam text message telling him he had won $1,000 from Best Buy. He ignored the message, knowing he had not registered for any giveaways at the store and suspecting the texter hoped to gain personal financial information from him if he tried to collect the “prize.”
Residents are reminded not to respond in any way to requests for personal or financial information or to become involved in claiming prizes they have not registered for or sought out in some way themselves. Doing so opens the door for scammers to obtain information they can use to damage the person who responds.
