Marvin Harris “Jiggs” Barker, 84, of Troy died Jan. 18, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Judd Mowery, Mark McCullough and Chelsey White officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Cunningham, Charles Harris, Tony Henson, Brian Jones, Travis Johnson, Lawrence French, Harry Johnson, Wayne Barker, Scott Barker and Greg White. Honorary pallbearers will be John Harris, Matt Harris, Terry Wiseman, Lyn Maloney, Neill Pate, Mike Pate, Bo Pate, Russell Fultz, Joe Fultz, Michael Johnson, Brent Johnson, Jason Johnson, Charlie Grooms, Jay Warren, Jimmy Barker, Jimmy Harris, Steve Jones and Paul Buckner.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Saturday.
The family requests that memorials be made to Marvin Harris Barker Memorial Scholarship Fund and sent to Kay Fultz at Troy’s First Citizens Bank, P.O. Box 310, Troy, TN 38260.
He was born March 16, 1928, in Obion County, son of the late Bryan and Zelma (Harris) Barker. He married the former Gladice Jo (Neill) Pate Feb. 14, 1992. She survives.
He was the retired co-owner of Barker Brothers Waste, where he had worked for 25 years.
A lifetime member of the National Trail Ride and Wagon Train Association at Golden Pond, Ky., he had won Best Heavy Hitch and Best Teamster awards. He also won numerous trophies in local Christmas parades with his Percheron horses and wagon.
He was a member of Troy United Methodist Church.
Survivors also include his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Greg White of Union City; his son, Bryan Barker and Lisa Capps, both of Troy; four grandchildren, Lori Barker of Troy, Chelsea White and Bryan Harris White, both of Union City, and Jay Warren of Murfreesboro; his brother, Bim Barker and Jacque Lethcoe, both of Union City; three stepchildren and the spouse of one, Mike Pate of Troy and Neill Pate and Hollye and Steve Jones, all of Union City; and five step-grandchildren, Brian Jones and Brittney Dillon, both of Union City, Bo Pate of Martin, Shelly Pate of Rives and Jay Warren of Murfreesboro; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Barks Barker.
