GOING AGAINST THE GRAIN | | Posted: Tuesday, January 15, 2013 6:22 am
| Thousands of bushels of corn spilled onto U.S. 51 at the south edge of Clinton, Ky., Saturday afternoon when a huge grain bin burst at Burgess Brothers Grain in Clinton. The Hickman County Office of Emergency Management reported the grain bin contained 575,000 bushels of corn. The grain bin failure resulted in grain being spilled into the roadway and power lines being knocked over at the site on U.S. 51 between the 6 and 7 mile markers, according to Keith Todd with the Kentucky Department of Transportation, District 1. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews were on site Saturday to assist police and emergency management personnel with setting up a detour around the scene and dealing with the spilled grain. The roadway was closed to traffic for several hours and cleanup apparently continued into Sunday. (Photo by Gaye Bencini, The Hickman County Times, Clinton, Ky.) | | | |
