Ruth Chumley Posted: Monday, January 14, 2013 4:00 pm Ruth Chumley, 97, of Union City died Jan. 11, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Union City. Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Sunday at Obion County Memorial Garden, with Dan Huggins officiating. Pallbearers were Don Moore, Jim Roberts, Colby McBride, Robert Moore, Gary Hartley and Ted Hamblen. White-Ranson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She was born Sept. 6, 1915, in Humphreys County, daughter of the late John Daniel Chappell and Lily Margaret Pruett Chappell. She married Elbert Chumley in 1935. He died in 1980. She was retired from the former Salant & Salant, where she had been employee for 32 years. She was a member of Exchange Street Church of Christ in Union City. She is survived by her daughter, Martha Williams of Union City; three granddaughters and the spouses of two, Mary Beth and Jim Roberts and Rita Williams, all of Union City, and Jan and Neven Barnett of Troy; two great-granddaughters and the spouse of one, Deven and Colby McBride of Union City and Dana Barnett of Troy; and two sisters, Gladys Floyd of Caruthersville, Mo., and Mary Lou Goodale of Fayetteville, Ark. She was also preceded in death by her son, John Eugene Pruett; three sisters, Mildred Goodale, Margaret Manley and Ruby Moore; and two brothers, J.D. Chappell and Norman Chappell.
