A pedestrian sustained possible injury Friday morning when he was struck by a vehicle on West Reelfoot Avenue at South Third Street in Union City.
Ronald Dwight Petrie, 68, of 1210 South Second St., Union City, was struck about 7:25 a.m. in a turn lane while crossing West Reelfoot Avenue, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Petrie was struck by a 2005 Cadillac SUV driven by Cynda Michelle Lamphier, 45, of 431 North Old Troy Road, Troy.
Ms. Lamphier told police she was leaving the parking lot of Snap Fitness when the accident occurred. She said she looked in both directions and there was no traffic, so she pulled out to go westbound on West Reelfoot Avenue, which is when she saw Petrie standing in the turn lane and hit her brakes. However, the front of her vehicle struck Petrie and he came onto the hood but never hit the ground, police reported.
Ms. Lamphier said she never saw Petrie until she started to merge onto Reelfoot. Petrie told police he was crossing the street in front of the Locker Room to go to Higher Ground and was in the turn lane, which is when he was struck by the vehicle, according to the report.
Ambulance personnel checked Petrie at the scene but he did not wish to be transported for treatment, police reported, adding he complained of ankle and chest pain.
There is no crosswalk in the area where the pedestrian was struck, police noted. No citations were issued.
