Westview’s Vincent shoots down Lady Cavaliers Posted: Friday, January 11, 2013 12:00 pm Westview’s Teddy Vincent kept the Lady Chargers on top of District 13AA with a career night against Crockett County. The Lady Charger standout poured in 42 points as Westview rolled to a 82-63 win Tuesday night at Martin. Dresden’s Amy McAlpin also had a great night of shooting against Bradford on Monday. She scored 27 points in the Lady Lions’ 52-43 win. Dresden followed up with a District 13A win on Tuesday by beating Bruceton 60-29. Westview’s boys fell a game back in the District 13AA standings after falling to Crockett County 77-71 on Tuesday. Dresden picked up a District 13A win with a 63-46 decision over Bruceton on Tuesday to keep pace with McKenzie and West Carroll. The Lions lost a non-district contest to Bradford on Monday 55-51. Both Westview teams will be on the road on Friday to take on Ripley, while both Dresden squads will have a big district battle at home on Friday against West Carroll. GIRLS Westview 82, CC 63 The Class AA No. 4-ranked Lady Chargers remained on top of the District 13AA standings with a perfect 9-0 record thanks to Vincent’s 42 points on Tuesday. The senior post player and High Point University signee was shooting the ball so well that she even hit a halfcourt shot to end the third period and put the Lady Chargers (17-2) up 67-44. The Lady Cavaliers (4-5, 6-9) could not stop Vincent or the rest of the Lady Chargers from scoring at will. Westview put up 23 points in the first period, 25 in the second and 22 in the third. The only period Crockett County could best Westview in was the final period, outscoring the Lady Chargers 19-12 with the game’s outcome already all but decided. Tiffany Rechis scored 15 points for Westview, while Kaley Leyhue added eight. Katelyn Luthi scored seven, Kendall Leyhue popped in six while Jasmine Howard and Alexus Taylor each scored two. Dresden 60, Bruceton 29 The Lady Lions (11-4, 7-2) kept their district place in the standings with a 31-point win over the sinking Lady Tigers. The Lady Lions’ balanced scoring attack did not have to rely on McAlpin, who scored 10 points on the night. Hailey Browning scored a game-high 14 points, and Alex Osteen added 10. Carly Greer put six points on the scoreboard along with Carrie Hatchel’s five. Kayla Hayes added four and Ashlee Garner scored two points. The Lady Lions held Bruceton to a single basket in the first period and kept the Lady Tigers from reaching double-digit scoring in a period until the final stanza, when Bruceton scored 10 points. Dresden 52, Bradford 43 A 16-5 first period was enough of a margin for Dresden on Monday as the Lady Lions held on to beat the Lady Red Devils in a non-district game. McAlpin had an awesome night with her game-high 27 points. Browning also reached double-figure scoring with her 11 points. Hatchel and Garner each scored seven to round out the scoring for Dresden. Bradford was able to keep up with Dresden during the remaining three periods, but it was the first period that sunk the Lady Red Devils, now 6-11 on the season. BOYS CC 77, Westview 71 Westview tried to battle back from a low-scoring first period on its part but could not catch the Cavaliers on Tuesday. The Chargers fell behind 21-10 in the first period and then fought to get back into the game. The Chargers matched the Cavaliers point-by-point in the second period but were still down by 11 at the half. Westview got to within five at the end of three after outscoring Crockett County 21-15, and then both teams put on an offensive show in the final period with the Cavs edging the Chargers 29-28. The loss puts Westview (14-5) two games back in the district standings with a 6-2 record. Covington, the Class AA No. 6-ranked team, remained unbeaten in the district with a 9-0 record after beating Obion Central on Tuesday. Javier Gordon led the Chargers with 21 points. Antonio Hogard scored 19 point, hitting three 3-pointers, and Jordan Davis reached the double-figure plateau with 11 points. Dresden 63, Bruceton 46 The Lions completed the sweep for the night on Tuesday for Dresden, thanks to a 23-point effort from Austin Daniels. Dresden turned a two-point deficit at the half into a near blowout in the third period. Down 32-30 at the break, the Lions went on an 18-point run while keeping the Tigers scoreless in the third period. By that time, the damage was done as the Lions found themselves up 48-32. Bruceton had to resort to fouling in the second half in an attempt to slow down Dresden, which hit 50 percent of it attempts at the line in the second half on 11-of-22 shooting. Kourtney Sawyer scored 11 points for the Lions, while Brock Dilday added eight. Kaleb Houston and Austin Maxey each scored seven in the winning cause. The Lions are now 7-1 in the district and 9-4 overall. Bruceton’s record is 4-5 in the district and 8-9 overall. Bradford 55, Dresden 51 Bradford used a 20-12 scoring edge in the second and was just good enough at the free throw line to come out on top against Dresden on Monday. Bradford hit 4-of-12 free throws in the fourth period and Grant Hampton hit one basket to account for all of the Red Devils scoring as Dresden nearly pulled off the comeback win. The Lions battled back in the second and matched Bradford in points in the third period with each team scoring 16. The Lions fell just two possessions short in the final period of coming out with a road win. Houston led the Lions in scoring with 16 points. Maxey added to Dresden’s totals with 11 points. Joey Caldwell and Daniel each scored seven points. Devan Raymer scored three on his 3-pointer in the third period, and Dilday chipped in five with Sawyer scoring two points to finish out the scoring.
